ABOUT JOHN BORDASH
John Bordash, 22, is a current college student pursuing his degree at Penn State- Harrisburg. As a fourth-grader in 2005, John became interested in the weather as Hurricane Katrina devastated portions of the Gulf Coast. For the remainder of elementary school, John would spend countless hours drawing up maps to track the latest hurricanes churning in the Atlantic. Up until John's junior year in high school, his weather interest largely |
remained a hobby, with no intent to pursue a career in the meteorology field. Instead, John had planned on following a career in education, and took multiple classes throughout high school to prepare him for the education field. However, with his interest in weather growing, John started posting current weather conditions and short term forecasts on social media. John eventually started a Facebook page to post his weather predictions. The page quickly became a legitimate weather source for those in Southern Maryland, and across the Mid-Atlantic. What was initially a hobby turned into a full-fledged passion.
John graduated high school from Patuxent High School in Lusby, Maryland in 2014. John completed the Teacher Academy of Maryland pathway, and in doing so, did a teaching internship at a local middle school his Senior Year. Instead of attending college in Pennsylvania, John decided to stay at home to attend school.
John’s forecasts and comments are have been featured in The County Times (page 17) and the St. Mary's Enterprise (front page). During the Winter of 2015, John shadowed meteorologists at WJLA ABC-7 (pictured above) and WTTG FOX-5.
